Here’s the plot twist that most manifestation content forgets to tell us: We don’t get the thing by trying to tighten our grip on the thing. We don’t call in your next-level life by getting hyperfixated on what isn’t here yet.
While some focused effort is involved in calling in what we want, more stress doesn’t bring us more ease. More control doesn’t equal more miracles. More pressure doesn’t equal more magnetism. The real unlock is…gratitude (aka surrender).
As Lacy Phillips, founder of To Be Magnetic, the modern guide for holistic living and manifestation, says, “Surrender is being able to appreciate all you have in the present moment—witnessing your wins, recognizing your growth, trusting that what you want is coming, remembering that divine timing is real.”
Surrender isn’t passive. It’s not doing nothing. It’s actually the highest form of embodiment, the energy of a person who already knows they’re the one. As Lacy explains, “It’s not about pretending you have it. It’s about becoming the person who can actually receive it.”
This is the nuance that most manifestation teachings miss. If you’re manifesting from lack, from panic, from obsession about timelines, you basically repel the thing you’re calling in. You delay it with your white-knuckle grip. Cue the jaw tension. Ouch.
As Lacy puts it, “The more we grip onto what ‘should’ happen, the more we delay the magic that’s orbiting.”
Manifestation is simply frequency matching. Meaning your energy aligns with what you’re calling in. Gratitude softens the why-isn’t-it-here-yet spiral and shifts you into a look-what-already-is perspective. It switches your vibe into sufficiency, putting you back in your power. Because most of the time, you already have proof that your life is expanding. You just forgot to notice.
Lacy tells us, “Sometimes, we get so fixated on what we don’t have, that we forget to witness and feel gratitude for the manifestations that have actually come through. It’s like any other growth path. It’s slow and incremental, but astonishing when we realize how far we’ve come.”
Progress usually isn’t one giant cinematic leap. It’s microevidence that stacks up. Think: subtle identity shifts, tiny energetic uplevels, small signs that you’re already in the middle of the becoming. This is why your spiritual strategy should be all about presence and taking note of the amazing things around you.
“The most beautiful life is the one you notice,” Lacy says.
This is where gratitude becomes a literal manifestation accelerator. This isn’t toxic positivity or pretending everything’s fine, but a state of grounded self-regulation that keeps you in receiving mode.
The next time you feel triggered, jealous, spiraling, or watching someone else getting what you want, pause.
Lacy offers this reframe: “The next time you’re triggered or tested, ask yourself, ‘What am I being asked to learn here?’ We can all find gratitude in every lesson. Ask yourself, ‘Where am I being invited to step into my highest, most integrated self?”
That’s the real practice: No forcing. No chasing. Just magnetism. Gratitude keeps you aligned and open. And that’s exactly when what’s meant for you, will find you.
